Description

The Chagall Kiddush Cup is a unique artistic masterpiece, reflecting the creative genius of Marc Chagall in an elegant, traditional and functional work of art appropriate for every Jewish home.

The solid .975 sterling silver goblet, measuring 21.50cm by 10cm, rests on a hexagonal base, each of whose six faces bears a different 17-color serigraph taken from the magnificent Chagall tapestry, The Exodus from Egypt, the artist's gift to the Knesset, the Parliament of Israel. All serigraphs are produced on fine quality 270 gr. art paper by Master Graveur Yitzhak Schwartz of the Israel Museum in Jerusalem. The Chagall name is engraved prominently on the three alternate faces and is readily visible from all angles.

In Jewish tradition, the Sabbath is a reminder of the Six Days of Creation - the birth of the Universe - and a legacy of the Exodus from Egypt, marking the birth of the Jewish people as a nation. The serigraphs adorning the Chagall Kiddush Cup base manifest the artist's grand imagination and elusive interpretations of these classical concepts, expressing the striking symbolism of the Bible in muted earth tones reminiscent of the soil of the Holy Land:

-- Jacob's Dream
-- The Burning Bush
-- Moses at Mt. Sinai
-- The Twelve Scouts entering the Land of Israel
-- King David Establishes His Capital in Jerusalem
-- Wedding Scene - a symbol of renewed Creation and Continuity

The Chagall Kiddush Cup has a limited and numbered edition of 950 units, imprinted with the seals of the Chagall Estate ADAGP Paris, and Arta Gallery. It is accompanied by a certificate of authenticity.
