Victor Shrem

This is a painting of Yemin Moshe, which was one of the first Jewish neighborhoods built outside the walls of Jerusalem’s Old City. It was built in the mid 19th Century. One can feel the historical atmosphere in the architecture of the Old City, which is contrasted with the more modern atmosphere of the new neighborhood. Signed by the artist. 20" x 27"

Victor Shrem is a scion of a family that came to this country in the 16th Century, following the expulsion of the Jews from Spain in 1492. Victor studied ceramics in Germany and, in 1984, opened his own studio in the Old City of Jerusalem. Today, Victor creates paintings using watercolor, oil and collage. Victor’s paintings are inspired by Israeli folklore, Israeli landscapes, (particularly the City of Jerusalem) and Judaic themes.
